A message from Rev. Howard Irwin, Pastor
Hi. I have been privileged to serve as
pastor of The First Baptist Church of
Woodlawn since May of 2008. Previously
I have served four American Baptist
Churches all in the Pittsburgh area. I am
married to the Rev. Carol Ross Irwin who
pastors The Franklin Park Baptist Church.
We met when we were students at
Southern Baptist Seminary in Kentucky,
and married before our graduation in
1982. We have three daughters; Beth who
is married to Mr. David Rittman and lives
in Ohio, Katie who is a student at
Syracuse University, and Juli who is a
high school student. In addition to being a
pastor, I am also a licensed social worker
in the state of Pennsylvania, and have
worked in family, mental health, and
substance abuse counseling. With both
members and visitors to our church, I am
interested in developing a personal
relationship. My interests include reading
(particularly John Grisham novels),
running (very slowly), golf (watch out for
stray balls), and cooking (or at least
eating). Why share these things? I believe
God is concerned with and in charge of all
areas of our lives. We serve Him not only
when we worship, but as we work, play
and spend time with our family and
friends. I'm glad you've taken some time
to check out our church website. Let me
personally invite you to attend one of our
worship services. In my sermons I try to
take the truths of the Bible and apply
them to living life in today's world. With
humor (or at least attempts at it) and
stories, my desire is to make God's eternal
truths relevant to the situations we all
face. I hope you will join us in worship.
You will find a warm welcome, and a
casual service that combines traditional
hymns and some contemporary worship
music. We have social activities for all
ages, and opportunities to become
involved in mission and service projects.

each day to love Him better as savior and
Lord.

joining The BYF and The Franklin
Park Baptist Church on a Mission
Trip to Grafton, WV. All pastoral
emergencies will be handled by Rev.
Edward C. Heist, Pastor Emeritus.
